What does NoFF mean to you?

The Nomading Film Festival to me is one of the best ways for travelers like myself to show case their passion and love of travel in video form. Noff is more than a film festival it's a creative community that has allowed me to connect with like minded people who want to share and showcase everything from the good to the bad while traveling.

What event in your travel life do you wish you had a camera for?

I've pretty much had a camera with me on every trip I've done however I wish I would of had one with me on my second big trip to Europe in 2007 that to this day was probably one of my favorite trips to date. I was on a Contiki tour with 30 Australians, 6 South Africans, 6 Americans, 1 Columbian and 1 Mexican, we covered 8 countries in 14 days and it was one of the wildest trips of my life and I made some lifelong friends from that trip. I'll never forget it.

Where to next?

My loose plan is San Francisco, Europe and then Australia. :)

What does NoFF mean to you?

NoFF represents the traveling experience, and means you are about to view some fun, authentic and educational content!  In today’s world where there are endless program and video options, it is refreshing to see NoFF showcasing what I believe to be truly inspiring media that sometimes get lost in the fold or fills only a small niche in the many hours of media consumed.  When traveling – Engage, Explore, Record – share these awesome experiences!

What event in your travel life do you wish you had a camera for?

Hmm I never traveled much until the digital era so I have almost always had some sort of camera with me… The problem that more often comes up is camera/operator malfunction, like when the blowing snow looks awesome but it's too cold for the camera, or using the wrong setting when I took a still photo instead of video on a motorcycle ride in Costa Rica...

Where to next?

China. Joining a good friend for his cousin’s wedding in Inner Mongolia, then touring Beijing, Chengdu and Hong Kong.

CAPTAIN AND CLARK (Chris Staudinger & Tawny Clark)

What does NoFF mean to you?

To us, NoFF embodies what we love about travel.  NoFF challenges us to get out, discover our world, and then share it with others.  Storytellers are the keepers of history and culture.  We live for the story, and NoFF allows us to pursue these stories and preserve them using video.  The most important aspect of NoFF is that it provides a platform for sharing these stories.  It's the modern day "camp fire".

What event in your travel life do you wish you had a camera for?

For us, we wish we had the video documenting experience that we have now on our trip to Tanzania.  It's actually where we met.  Our story to the summit of Kilimanjaro and back (intertwined with our meeting) is one that we would love to have documented properly.  Between our porters, fellow climbers, and guides, we would have racked up tons stories of inspiration and exploration.

Where to next?

We are about to embark on our big adventure around the globe.  We recently made a trip to the Galapagos islands where we picked up a satchel full of letters addressed to strangers around the world.  We're planning on delivering each letter by hand while documenting the importance of communication and how it's changed over the years.  We have letters addressed to places like Jordan, Columbia, and Morocco.  We can't wait to embark!

What is your hometown

We both hail from Washington state, but from opposite sides.  Tawny's from Bremerton and Chris is from Spokane.

Where do you live now?

Right now, we're living out of our backpacks.  Our "home base" is probably Seattle, but we don't plan on being in one spot for too long over the next year or so.

If you can be anywhere in the world, you’d be _______

On a ship, sailing the seven seas.  Is that cheating?  We're not called Captain and Clark for nothing- Chris actually has multiple sailing licenses.

What does NoFF mean to you?

There are many of us who are so deeply in love with travel that we feel it's our duty to share our experiences with the world through video. Traditionally, there have been problems with that:

1) None of us went to film school

2) We don't have cameramen or directors,

3) Cash is short

Basically it's just us... a one man (or woman) show.

NoFF is an opportunity for all of those true travel enthusiasts, who dig deep and work hard to learn a craft MOST people go to school for... Good thing we're not "most people".

What we're making is raw and genuine. It's our wonderful world as we've experienced it. The Ups, the Downs and all of those incredible little things you can't believe actually exist. NoFF is the stage for us to express ourselves and hopefully inject some restlessness into the souls of those who watch our films.

What event in your travel life do you wish you had a camera for?

Last year I was sleeping under the stars in the Australian Outback. It was winter, the campfire died at around 3am and I started to freeze. I woke up around an hour later, and strangely I was warm again. The campfire was still out, and there was no way in hell the sun had anything to do with it. It took a few sleepy seconds to realize I was middle spoon between 2 wild dogs.

I rolled with it, but unfortunately, I don't sleep with my camera (yet).

Where to next?

Africa's East coast, including Madagascar and Socotra would be my dream trip. For a Biology nerd like me, it's pretty much paradise.

What does NOFF mean to you?

NoFF to us is all about doing what you love, loving what you do, having masses of fun doing it, and sharing it with the world in the hope that it looks like so much fun, and is obviously so possible and so do-able, that they in turn will think about doing what they love, and loving what they do and having masses of fun doing it and the world will become a love and laughter filled planet populated by love and laughter filled people. Nothing big!

What event in our travel life do we wish we had a camera for?

After a very long think indeed, we cannot come up with an occasion when we would have wished to have had a camera and didn't, BUT there are many occasions when we would have liked a camera-man/woman/monkey. Pictures/video of us together are quite rare and we treasure what we have, taken by friends and strangers. What is even rarer though and most coveted, are photos/videos of us "in action" or in unguarded moments when we're unaware of a camera. The event we MOST wish we had a camera-man/woman/monkey for? Our weeks in the Sahara (Algeria/Niger) for the eclipse of 2006.

Where to next?

Welsh Wales :)) In mid-October we go first to Aberystwyth to attend an Oxfam LIVE event (we raised $2000 for their East Africa appeal last month by walking 15 miles along the Thames) then we head to Cardiff  to make a Doctor Who pilgrimage and attend a National Science and Engineering week session (we are organizing a week of geeky goodness next year beginning on Einstein's birthday). I am also debating whether to hop a cruise from Palma to Panama at the end of October. The price is currently $499 (no seriously it is) ... for 2 weeks ... stopping on 3 gorgeous Caribbean islands before arriving in Colon. I really shouldn't but ...

What ficticious country are you a NoFFbassador to?

May we have a planet instead please? If that's okay, our planet is called Curos (pronounced cure-os). It exists in a different timeline to Earth, but we are time travelling NOFFers and able to cross all time and space.

What is your hometown?

Tricky! I was born in the east end of London, but raised in Chicago and Pittsburgh and returned to live in the UK when I was 17. I have moved many times since then and would honestly struggle to call anywhere my hometown. Will was born in a small town called Normandy in the UK and has lived in France, the USA and Canada in his 8 years. I just asked him what his hometown was and he said "a very nice place". Hmmmm

Where do you live now?

Ah an easy one! We live in Addlestone, Surrey, UK. About 5 minutes from my mother. Which is weird. But really very pleasant.

If we could be anywhere in the world, we'd be ....

in Mauritius. I've been there many times and Will has been a few. We adore it.

CANDACE YOUNGHANS

What does NOFF mean to you:

NoFF is... A FEELING of a reunion you cannot wait to attend. A PARTY free from small talk. A MOVEMENT for people who may never have met, but who

have a certain unspoken understanding. A SHARING between people who value the experience of being an outsider, who shift its potential

discomfort into an opportunity to connect, to learn, to grow. A GATHERING of minds and hearts intent on ever expanding, on getting to

know the whole - discovering, first hand, our undeniable interconnectedness, the beauty in our differences and the excitement of exploring the unfamiliar.

What event in our travel life do we wish we had a camera for?

I wish I'd had a camera (and a camera person wouldn’t have hurt) for the

time I spent in Itacare, Brazil. When I happened upon a Brazilian friend I'd made earlier in my travels. He was leading a group of children (ages 3 - 7) through a “graduation” capoeira roda. It was an old schoolroom with colorful adobe style walls and low ceilings. They were doing headstands and flips, full of smiles and good food all around. The adults kept rythm and danced around them. It was the best feeling of family and community I'd ever experienced.

Where to next?

I am, this week, beginning a little solo-tour through through Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. Very excited about Yellowstone. Then staying in Ashland, Oregon for a few months. Renting a car for most of it, but might take the Greyhound to Oregon from Salt Lake City, Utah.
Either that or a rideshare.

What fictitious country are you a NoFFbassador to?

I am NoFFbassador to the fictitious country of, Cebola. (Cebola means onion in Portuguese, it was a nickname my capoeira mestre gave me way back when I came back to the US from Brazil and continued practicing in San Diego, California. I get a kick out of all of the symbolism that can be read into it.)

What is your hometown?

I have three hometowns from my youth: Sonoma, California; Arvin, California; and Escondido, California. And one from my adult life: San Francisco, California

Where do you live now?

Currently, I am nomadic. I do not have a single geographic location that I call home. I’m just Engaging, Exploring, Recording and noticing where I naturally begin to take root. :)

If you could be anywhere in the world, you’d be ______

If I could be anywhere in the world, I’d be on horseback, on an endurance ride, trekking through the mountains and rivers of Australia’s high country.

What does NoFF mean to you?

NoFF celebrates travelers who film, not filmmakers who travel.  This is me in a nutshell.  I've thrown my backpack on for years but have only recently gotten the courage to take that FlipVideo out of my pocket and press record.  NoFF is a platform for anyone, whether a travel neophyte on his or her first adventure or a seasoned explorer, to pick up that camera and shoot.  What happens on the other side of the lens can take on the canvas for an inspiring story - one that NoFF an help you share with pals, family, and the greater travel community.

What event in your travel life do you wish you had on camera?

In August 2009, my sister and I woke up in Bocas del Toro, Panama.  As the day progressed, I started feeling super ill.  Let's just fast forward and say that we both ended up in the local clinic with what we now lovingly refer to as "Panamanian Bowel Syndrome."  I had a fever of 104, went through three IVs, a few random shots in the wrist, and had to translate for my sister the entire time.  We were released 24 hours later - my hospital bill totaled $21 USD.  Did I mention the clinic had no potable water...or toilet paper? Awesome.  This was pure survival - the grittiest, most disgusting, most torturous night of my life.  I learned that I am one tough chick.

Where to next?

Colombia or Argentina - budget pending!

What fictitious country are you a NoFFbassador to?
